How Creator Content Powers Discovery, Search, and Growth

Consumers no longer move through a simple marketing funnel. Instead, they discover brands while scrolling, searching, reading comments, and receiving recommendations — often before a brand even realizes they’re being considered.

With the discovery path changing, investment has followed. In today’s climate of tighter budgets and higher accountability, marketing leaders are under pressure to prove ROI. That pressure, however, isn’t shrinking ad spend. Instead, spend is shifting to the channels that influence early discovery and trust in the consumer journey. As a result, creator marketing budgets have surged 171% year over year, according to a report from CreatorIQ.

Significantly, this isn’t just a reallocation of spend — it’s a reflection of how people are now finding and evaluating brands.

Products aren’t simply waiting to be found

Search behavior has changed, especially among those in Gen Z. Instead of typing into Google with a clear need, consumers now expect relevant recommendations to show up in their social feeds. According to a Sprout Social report, 76% of users — and 90% of Gen Z — say social content influenced a purchase in the last six months.

Creators are doing more than driving awareness — they’re creating demand in real life. On TikTok, for instance, people aren’t just scrolling for entertainment; they’re actively searching for reviews, comparisons, and proof before they buy.

For brands, the opportunity lies in turning that creator content into a full-funnel engine. To accomplish this, marketers must pair organic storytelling with paid media, capturing intent as it occurs.

A new age of discovery

Discovery may start on social media, but validation happens everywhere. Consumers turn to platforms like Reddit, for example, for honest opinions and unfiltered recommendations and while looking for social proof that feels authentic.

Now, the trust is extending beyond human readers. Through partnerships like the one between Reddit and OpenAI, real conversations are becoming training data for AI-powered search and large language models (LLMs).

At the same time, generative AI is reshaping how products surface, and it’s learning from human content. Creator reviews, product storytelling, and everyday conversations are feeding LLMs. How people actually talk about products — “comfortable walking shoes for travel,” for instance — is increasingly determining what appears in AI-driven results.

Creators, then, aren’t just influencing consumers’ buying decisions; they’re shaping what gets discovered in the first place.

Performance is built on trust

When uncertainty rises, marketers will double down on what works — and creator content has been proven to work:

  • Investment follows performance: CreatorIQ reports that 71% of organizations are increasing spend in this area, and 94% say creator-led content is delivering stronger returns than traditional advertising.
  • People outweigh brands: eMarketer reports that people trust recommendations from other people more than they trust brand messaging, and that trust is what turns content into conversions.
  • Credibility translates into attention: The “Influencing to Impact” report from Dentsu-Lumen Research found that influencer content is 73% more likely to hold someone’s attention on average compared to brand-led content.

The metrics that matter beyond follower count are relevance and alignment. Value, tone, and audience fit determine whether content resonates and ultimately converts.

Creator content: the real growth engine

No longer just a supporting tactic, creator content is the connective tissue across brand, performance, and media. Nor does creator content live in one place. The most effective brands activate it across myriad channels — from social and search to CTV, DOOH, display, and email, meeting consumers at multiple touchpoints.

When done right, creator content:

  • Sparks discovery through authentic storytelling
  • Builds credibility at scale
  • Fuels visibility across social and AI search
  • Delivers measurable ROI

The brands that will win next aren’t the loudest, but they are the most human. Because in today’s marketing reality, connection drives conversion and trust drives growth. The future of marketing will be won by brands that understand how to harness human influence at scale.
