RRD Facility Spotlight: RRD Temecula
6/18/2025

Strategically located between San Diego and Los Angeles, RRD’s Temecula facility offers a full range of digital print-on-demand solutions in both color and black and white. In addition, the facility boasts variable data capabilities and an array of finishing options. Temecula’s roster of digital assets — including inkjet web press capabilities — supports digital book production, short-medium run direct mail, high-end marketing collateral, and health care and financial industry products.
What truly sets RRD Temecula apart, says Jeff Jewell, Temecula Plant President, is that it can provide such an extensive range of products and services. Additionally, it can seamlessly transition from producing a single document to thousands of booklets — all without missing a beat.
“We have it all under one roof — the storage space, the picking bins, the inkjet web capabilities — along with our ability to interact with RRD’s network of business units,” he says. “That combination enables us to support our clients’ needs, whether those clients are regional companies in California, national accounts supporting West Coast customers, or other RRD Print Fulfillment & Distribution operations.”
We caught up with Jeff to discover how RRD Temecula is continuously finding ways to satisfy clients and set itself apart from the competition.
What about this facility makes it unique in the marketplace?
Jeff Jewell (JJ): RRD Temecula is the West Coast anchor for RRD’s Print Fulfillment & Distribution group, serving the greater Los Angeles/San Diego region in a single business day by UPS ground. In our 163,000-square-foot facility — which features 10,000 pallet locations, 3,000 forward picking bins, and an impressive digital printer fleet — we’re able to support a wide variety of customers.
A customer who works with a few different vendors may come across facilities with other printing presses or other pieces of equipment, or they may be aware of other warehouse facilities that service Southern California. But they’re not going to find the scale of what we can do in combination with our inkjet firepower.
If you had to narrow it down to one thing, what do you consider your facility’s forte?
JJ: It’s our collaborative approach with our clients — and our ability to utilize RRD’s enterprise system. Our customer service system for billing and inventory, our warehouse business system, and our proprietary system for digital printing — these all combine to optimize the efficiency of our equipment and staff.
We have fully integrated these systems into everything we do here — and have done so for the past 20 years. This allows us to be extremely efficient, which unlocks a high level of productivity in customer service and on the production floor. In addition, we’re able to automate billing and production — there are very few, if any, manual processes. As a result, we can produce a high-quality product over tens of thousands of repetitions every month.
Can you share a client project where your facility’s technology played a critical role?
JJ: A large managed care insurer had a conditions management program with hundreds of versions dropping daily. These comprised a combination of print-on-demand personalized materials and off-the-shelf components.
The program required a full range of our services, from machine inserting and hand kitting to picking/packing, digital print, and more. But it was partnering with RRD’s programming staff that enabled the creation of a custom solution to consolidate many different versions into single batches that really increased our efficiency. This allowed daily production — getting the product out faster. It also brought cost savings to the client.
What role does RRD Temecula play in your clients' evolution? How do you help clients evolve to keep pace with their own customers' demands?
JJ: Our full integration into RRD’s enterprise system allows our clients to expand into other areas. It also provides disaster recovery options.
Over time, as clients become more successful, they grow and add more states to where they’re servicing their customers — now producing and delivering products in new regions. Because we’re linked to other RRD Print Fulfillment & Distribution facilities across the country, we can seamlessly transfer client inventory to other RRD locations. We have the ability to grow with our clients.
Our disaster recovery options particularly come into play for our managed care accounts that have critical compliance mailings and related materials for members or prospective members. It’s not uncommon for a hurricane, flood, wildfire, or other event to disrupt production or distribution logistics — but we can seamlessly redirect those orders into other sites that are not affected.
When talking about RRD Temecula to an associate or a potential customer, what’s the one thing you find yourself repeating time and time again?
JJ: We always emphasize the range of our scale. Temecula can fill a number of niches to service our customers — from mailing hundreds of thousands of pieces and shipping tens of thousands of kits on a daily basis for managed care, to someone calling in for a single evidence of coverage or a drug formulary for their healthcare plan. We’re able to operate at the scale of one and also operate at the scale of hundreds of thousands — something that’s difficult for most facilities to do.
