RRD’s packaging and supply chain expertise provide customers with a markedly superior unboxing experience
CHALLENGE
An innovative company combining elements of AI, computer vision, and sports equipment faced critical packaging challenges for one of their products. They sought a redesign of the product’s existing packaging in order to elevate the unboxing experience, while also integrating customized structural features.
Their current supplier, however, lacked the technical capability to support the company’s requirements, and their overall costs were uncompetitive.
SOLUTION
RRD Asia partnered with the company to conceive and produce a comprehensive, end-to-end solution that would span design, engineering, manufacturing, and global delivery. RRD established a joint project team with the company's sourcing and engineering departments to ensure rigorous coordination throughout execution.
Ultimately, RRD delivered a seamless execution on three fronts:
- Multi-material integration: In order to support the product’s weight (more than 11 kg; about 25 lb), RRD developed a complex packaging system incorporating pulp trays, corrugated elements, expanded polyethylene (EPE) cushioning, and other components. This integrated approach ensured structural integrity and compliance with the company’s strict drop test standards.
- Innovative design and engineering: RRD's design team re-engineered the pulp trays, optimizing the structures to ensure a precise fit. The new design accommodated updated product dimensions, improved product protection, and served to elevate the overall unboxing experience.
- Cost reduction: To optimize cost efficiency, RRD leveraged their robust supply chain to deliver a flexible price strategy. RRD Asia worked in tandem with RRD’s OEM team to rigorously review current specifications, successfully driving down costs to meet the company’s targets without compromising quality.
